The ‘Unix’ operating system was created by a group of AT&T employees at Bell Labs in 1969. It was later rewritten into assembly language for the operating system, and then rewritten again in C language in 1973.

In the seventies and the eighties, the Unix was so popular, many people took the idea of Unix and started a new project, for example, Apple is using Unix to create its own operating system called OS X, is also an operating system for Apple TV and iOS devices such as iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Unix powers almost all Apple products.

Another group of people also created a free open source based on Unix called Linux, it is basically a graphic user interface skin over Unix.

Today, Unix operating systems are widely used in servers, workstations, and mobile devices. The Unix environment and the client–server program model were essential elements in the development of the Internet and the reshaping of computing as centered in networks rather than in individual computers.
